M1CRO :: October 2009 UHF Contest
OK! Back to multi-band operations!
This year we extend a 'Welcome back' to the higher bands. We were able to
muster (almost) a full deck from 70cms to 12mm. Honourable exception was 9cms
which simply could not be pursuaded to travel.

Setting up on Friday afternoon went well and we made good progress in a quite pleasant day
- tent up, 3 Alumasts assembled, 8 x 23 assembled.
Overnight the WX deteriorated and Saturday was very windy, even simple tasks
became tedious because of the concentration needed to stand upright while making
sure stuff didn't head for the North Sea.
We were a lttle late starting and were unable to get the 23cms mast up
higher than 'at rest' - little more than 20 feet. It is usually at 20 Metres!

We dropped a clanger when cabling "up top" on the high-band tower
which meant that we were short of 6cms until we could get the time to
lower it for a re-hash around 17:00Z right after doubling the height
of the 23cm array in a calmer spell. Fortunately no damage done
and we belatedly started making 6cm QSOs.
And EA started coming through on 70cms!
The wind dropped further after the cold front blew past at around 21:00
along with short spell of heavy rain.

Sunday mirrored Friday and was largely uneventful. Teardown went smoothly
and we were off the park in an-hour-per-tower around 19:00 local.
So thanks for the QSOs this year! Thanks, Mike, for the catering and thanks to
the club members who've given up their time this season to come to the site early
on Saturdays to support and assist. It would be harder without you!
73!
