M1CRO/P :: May 2010 432MHz - 248GHz Contest
May is a fickle month. The First weekend (and Bank Holiday) more so.
What began as a pleasant stroll in the countryside, selecting an alternative patch of Naze, away fom
the paths, ended in battling a Sunday morning roaring gale with horizontal rain, persistng down!
It is surprising how long it takes to get 3 towers disassembled and packed away under those conditions.

The plan, as evident from the photo, was an assult on the two Trophy contests incorporated
in the weekend activities. 2 x 4x21 on 70cms and the Mark3 3cm rig would give us a fair chance.
As it turned out the conditions on 70cm at our location were as fickle as the weather. Deep
QSB interspersed with startling periods of enhancement. There were times when we worked nothing
for periods of 10-15 minutes. Then a 59 report from 43-square. Strange.

At the 3cm station things were not so perplexing. As ever there was the hustle and bustle of lining
up skeds using both 'KST and up-shift from 70cm contacts along with avoiding long explainations for
our lack of other 'higher bands'.
But 3cms worked well with 'ZTR on the key while 'APZ handled the QSO marshalling. All attempted were completed
and it looks like a competiitive entry.
We'll have additional bands running in October. Promise!
CU in the next one.
